No More Menopause Taboo

Updated: May 5, 2021

When you look back through history and learn how women have been treated across the ages when experiencing menopause symptoms, you come to realise that the same stigmas are still sitting around impacting women today. The 'just get on with it' attitude towards menopause is hurting women and their physical and mental health. Menopause is a natural part of the ageing process, but this does not mean that women should just suffer in silence without any help or guidance.

I say NO MORE MENOPAUSE TABOO! We need to talk about, learn about and understand what is happening inside our body so that we can take care of ourselves at this really important and pivotal time in our life.

We need to focus on all the positives aspects of midlife because there are so many, but it is also imperative that women understand their health risk factors as a result of losing estrogen. Did you know that the risk of heart disease in women over 50 is very similar to that of men? Did you know that heart disease is the biggest killer of women over 50? It is shocking that women are not supported to understand the risks and how to change their lifestyle to lower their risk of heart disease.

This is a time when women need to be asking lots of questions about hormonal changes and how they impact their health. We need to talk with our female friends and family members and learn from one another. The more we hide away and go through this alone, the harder we make it for our sister and our daughters to speak up and get the support that they need. Too many women are suffering unnecessarily when there is help out there which can improve their quality of life.

NO MORE MENOPAUSE TABOO! Let's support all women so they can come forward and receive the help and support that they really need during perimenopause, menopause and post menopause.

We are the change we want to see.
